Peppermint Kiss Cookies

Part of the fun of Christmas time is making (and eating) Christmas cookies.  This is one cookie that everyone will love!

Peppermint Kiss Cookies:

3 1/2-4 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup butter (softened)
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla

In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.  In a separate bowl, cream together shortening, butter and sugar.  Add eggs and vanilla and mix until fluffy.  Add flour mixture and mix just until blended.  The dough will be soft.  Higher altitudes need 4 1/2 cups flour, lower altitudes need less.  Scoop a tbsp. of dough and roll into a ball.  Roll in sugar and place on cookie sheet covered with parchment paper.

Bake for 10-12 minutes in a 350 degree oven.  Do not over bake.  As soon as they come out of the oven place a peppermint kiss in the middle of the cookie.  Let cool.

Christmas Game Idea "Where's Rudolph?"

Christmas Game Idea

"Where's Rudolph?"

Nothing brings the family closer together than playing games and laughing! This creative Christmas game is perfect for families with younger children but it's actually fun for people of any age!

es holiday games for the family

The game board is a printable that has nine  images of Rudolph on it.

How to play: Put a piece of candy (we usually do M&Ms) on each Rudolph.  Have one person leave the room and have everyone else decide on one reindeer to be "Rudolph".  When the person comes back into the room, they get to pick pieces of candy off of the game board one by one.  When the person picks "Rudolph," everyone will shout "That's Rudolph!" and then they don't get to pick anymore candy.  They get to eat all of the candy they picked off before picking Rudolph! The goal is to try to clear the whole board.  This game is so fun because of the element of suspense--even I get so excited when it's my turn to try to get all of the candy! Sometimes the person will pick Rudolph on the first try, some people get every piece of candy.  It's a blast!  Reset the game board with candy after every player's turn.

We hope you enjoy our game!

Santa Cookies

Ana's Corner

It's Christmas cookie time and these festive Nutter Butter Santa cookies are just what you're looking for to make everyone say "Wow...that girl is awesome..."!  Kids love eating these cookies.

So here's what you need:

Nutter Butters (one for every Santa that you want to make)
Red airheads (one airhead makes 3-4 Santa hats)
Shiny black sprinkles for the eyes
White candy melt
Coconut
Marshmallows

Putting the cookies together:

Melt the candy melt in a double boiler.  (I'd say maybe 3-4 pieces per Santa that you want to do to give you and idea of how much to melt).

Cut triangular Santa hats out of the airheads--I tried to make my triangle pretty wide and I left a rectangle at the bottom of it to make it taller (and to give space for the marshmallow trim).

Coat a Nutter Butter with the candy melt--the top just needs a thin layer (for the hat to stick to), spread the candy thicker over the bottom and the sides for the beard.

Stick a marshmallow to the top of Santa's hat
Stick Santa's hat and a piece of candy melt for Santa's face onto the Nutter Butter.

Cover the remaining candy melt with coconut (going up onto Santa's face).

Cut the marshmallows into thin slices.

Trim Santa's hat with marshmallows along the bottom.

With a tooth pick dab a tiny bit of melted candy onto the face and then place the eyes on top, close together.  (Don't try to dip the eyes and then stick them on--it will look more messy).

HO HO HO
Make your friends and kids say "Whoa!"

Easy Bread-sticks

Emily's Corner

Making pasta or pizza and want an easy side to go along with it? These breadsticks are perfect and they're so tasty that everyone will like them!  I hate freezer breadsticks--I feel like they just don't taste the same...and with a recipe this simple and easy there's no reason not to just throw these together instead!

Making the bread-sticks:

1 1/2 cups hot water

1 tbsp yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp salt
3 1/2 - 4 cups flour

Mix water, yeast and sugar together in a dough mixer. Let bubble and rise.  Mix in honey and salt and then add flour until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.  Knead for 5-6 minutes.  Let rise for 25 minutes.

Melt 1/4 cup butter on a cookie sheet.

Roll out dough and place on pan and then flip over so that both sides are covered in butter.

Cut with a pizza cutter into strips (we cut ours into squares) and sprinkle with garlic salt and Parmesan cheese.

Bake at 400 for 15 minutes.

Enjoy!
