After you do your apple picking this year, come home and bake some delicious apple strudel!

Apple Strudel Recipe:

Sweet Pastry:
2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup butter softened (no substitutions)
1 egg slightly beaten

Apple Filling:
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 medium peeled and sliced apples

Glaze:
2 cups powdered sugar
3 tbsp. whole milk
1 tsp. almond extract

To prepare crust, mix flour, sugar, salt and baking powder in a bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until crumbly. Gently mix in the beaten egg.

Spray a 9x13 baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Gently pat the crumb mixture into the bottom of the dish. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. To prepare apple filling, combine flour, sugar and cinnamon. Toss this mixture with apples and then remove apples from mixture and spread apples on the prepared crust. Sprinkle left over mixture on top of apples. Bake in preheated oven for 35-40 minutes.

To prepare glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, almond extract and enough milk to achieve desired consistency. Place glaze in plastic squeeze bottle (I got mine at Walmart) and drizzle over cooled pastry. Allow pastry to cool and cut into squares. Enjoy!

Note: We have tried this recipes with different types of apples and liked them all. Sometimes it even tastes good to use a couple different kinds of apples.
